I was smitten by this flower of the sun a month ago. Walking through the Autaugaville field I was moved by how proud they appeared. Sturdy, bold, bathed in blazing light, penetrating heat, yet blossoming, as if defiantly translating adversity to a brilliant, glorious, hopeful hue. I wanted to somehow capture the awe and wonder of it all in a still life to remember.
